How to read the forecast map
The map layer is a moonless reference: it combines natural sky background with estimated city glow. Cloud, moonlight and current particle extinction are separate from this layer, so its colours do not describe all of tonight’s observing conditions.
The table shows forecast snapshots: each row has its own location, date and suggested hour in UAE time (GST, UTC+4). Sites may be shown at different hours. A higher value in mag/arcsec² means a darker sky background; it is a model estimate, not a field measurement or certified Bortle class. Read the date beside 00:00 to identify which midnight the snapshot describes.
The page checks for updates every five minutes and when you return. Expired or stale values are hidden until a valid update arrives. The comparison table remains available if the browser cannot display the interactive map. Check tonight’s conditions, the Moon and your actual horizon before travelling.
Looking for measured sky brightness?
The separate sky-brightness measurements map shows published observations and their context. A forecast point does not establish public access or camping permission. See the observing-site guides and model sources and limitations.
