Using moonlight to plan your night
For faint stars and Milky Way photography, look for hours when the Moon is below the horizon and the Sun is at least 18° below it. A Moon-free hour can still be affected by haze, clouds and city lights. For lunar detail, the changing shadow edge is especially useful to explore with binoculars or a telescope. Check tonight’s conditions.
