Abu Dhabi · dune country
A night in Liwa Oasis.
Plan the sky and the foreground together. Around Liwa, the shape of the dunes can be as important to a photograph as the time the Milky Way rises.
Match your subject to the season and time
The central Milky Way is not available throughout every night or every month. Use the planner to identify when its direction clears the horizon during astronomical darkness. If the core is unavailable, consider a different target or a wider star field. A Moon can illuminate dunes beautifully while reducing contrast in faint Galactic structure.
Read the horizon
A dune ridge can block a low object even when a calculation places it above a level horizon. Scout the composition in daylight, then use the planetarium for the direction and time. A higher viewpoint does not automatically give better transparency or safer access.
Before you travel
Use an established, permitted observing location or arrange access with a local operator. Dune driving needs appropriate equipment and experience. Skydust does not provide a navigable off-road route or confirm that a particular dune is open to visitors.

Help build the evidence
Compare repeated observations from the same place and direction. Note dust and Moon conditions alongside a zenith brightness reading; a scenic location and a measured dark sky are different pieces of evidence.
Contribute a measurement or explore the measured sky map. A map point records an observation; it does not certify permanent darkness or access.
The Skydust reference point
23.13° N, 53.78° E · model elevation 130 m. These are Skydust’s existing forecast coordinates. Your observing position may have a different elevation, horizon and lighting.
Use the night planner for a selected date and the Tonight forecast for current model context. The guide does not assign a fixed Bortle class or treat modelled brightness as an instrument measurement. How Skydust estimates observing conditions.
